Occupational License Information

Planning & Zoning

The City of Zachary collects occupational license taxes from businesses located within the City of Zachary. New businesses, including home occupations must obtain their occupational licenses prior to opening their business. To obtain an occupational license, you must complete an Occupational License Application.  Once your application is processed, an Occupational License Certificate will be mailed to you to be posted in your place of business. Please allow 7 to 10 business days for processing. For renewal of Occupational License, please call 225-654-1935 or visit the City Hall Annex, located at 4650 Main Street, for your "personalized" renewal form, which is pre-coded for your particular business.

How do I obtain an Occupational License?

You may download an Occupational License on-line, fill out the application and return it in person to the City of Zachary Planning and Zoning Department, 4650 Main Street, City Hall Annex. The City of Zachary will verify if you qualify for a license, and if an additional waiver is needed from the City Council.  Checks will be accepted for the occupational license tax, made payable to the City of Zachary for one of the options listed below:

  • $50 for businesses that open January 1 – June 30
  • $25 for businesses that open July 1 – December 31

When is the Occupational License Tax Due?

For a new business, the Occupational License Tax is due prior to the date the business opens. Renewal of occupational licenses is due January 1 and becomes delinquent on March 1. The renewal of your occupational license is based upon the gross income for your business for the previous year.

Additional questions concerning obtaining an occupational license can be addressed by calling the City of Zachary Planning and Zoning Department at 225-654-1935.
