Mayor David Amrhein hosted a “Bike to Work” Day on June 28 for the City of Zachary employees. Employees were encouraged to commute by bicycle, the healthy and cost effective way to get to work. Bicycling to work is a good way to get exercise while helping reduce pollution and traffic congestion. More than half of Americans live within 5 miles of their workplace, making a bike commute a feasible option for a significant portion of the community. A new bicycle lane on LA 64 was recently completed and marked, designating the strip of roadway for bicycling. This bike to work event is the latest in Zachary’s efforts making the city friendly to cyclists and pedestrians. A system of paved biking and walking trails/sidewalks was completed in 2017, and future plans include connectivity all over the city.
