Zachary Drivers Could Soon See Some Changes On Their Daily Commute

Starting Monday, February 18th, East Central Avenue will be permanently closed from Hwy. 19 to Sunset Blvd.  “For safety reasons, and in agreement with the railroad company, the portion of East Central Avenue, which includes a large curve will be closed indefinitely and barricaded,” says Chris Davezac, City of Zachary Public Works Director.  The city plans to install a stop sign at the corner of East Central Avenue at Sunset Blvd.

In addition, the intersection of Rollins Road and Church Street will be transitioning from a four-way stop to a two-way stop, to allow easier flow of traffic during peak school times.  Zachary Police Department Officer Justin Nevels, who monitors traffic in this area recommended the removal of the two stop signs because of the back-up on both the east and the west sides of Church Street.

Both of these intersections will be highly marked for drivers.
