The City of Zachary and Zachary Wings Elite proudly hosted the 2nd Annual Mayor’s Cup Games on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Northeast High School. This exciting track and field competition, part of the AAU Region 11 Southern District, welcomed more than 350 athletes ages 5–18 for a day of spirited competition and community pride.
A total of 28 teams traveled from across Louisiana, Mississippi, and Georgia to participate in a full slate of track and field events. Young athletes showcased their skills and determination as they competed for gold, silver, bronze, and baby bronze medals.
In addition to event medals, special honors were presented, including the Mayor’s Cup trophy and the Mayor’s Games Star Performer award recognizing the top boy athlete of the day.
Mayor David McDavid was in attendance to officially kick off the event and sponsor the awards ceremony. “The Mayor’s Cup Games exemplify the dedication, sportsmanship, and talent of our youth,” said Mayor McDavid. “We are proud to support opportunities that inspire and empower young athletes.”
Congratulations to The Nola Rush Track Club, crowned champions of this year’s Mayor’s Cup Games, and to the Houma Jets Track Club, who earned runner-up honors.
The City extends sincere appreciation to James Trotter, Chairman of the Mayor’s Cup Games and Head Coach of Zachary Wings Elite, for his leadership and commitment to organizing this outstanding event.

All Zachary municipal offices will be closed on Thursday, July 3, 2025, in observance of the Fourth of July holiday.

Garbage and recycling collection services will not be affected by the holiday closure and will continue on their regular schedule.
The City of Zachary extends warm wishes to all residents for a safe and festive Independence Day celebration.

Entergy has awarded a $500 "Beat-the-Heat" grant to the City of Zachary to help protect vulnerable residents from the summer heat. With these funds, the City purchased 18 tower fans, which were raffled off during the “Prime Timers” senior luncheon held at Zachary First Baptist Church — a monthly community gathering open to all seniors.
Mayor David McDavid joined Entergy representatives Desiree Harris, Customer Service Manager, and Sara Kleinpeter, Senior Public Affairs Officer, to draw names and hand out the fans to the lucky recipients. In addition to the fan giveaway, Harris shared valuable information about Entergy’s utility bill assistance programs, including LIHEAP, deferred payment plans, and emergency resources available for low-income seniors and individuals with disabilities.
Mayor McDavid also took the opportunity to update attendees on the City’s progress in areas such as infrastructure improvements, transportation upgrades, public safety initiatives, economic development, and ongoing beautification projects.
This collaborative event highlights the City of Zachary and Entergy’s shared commitment to supporting and protecting residents—especially the senior population—during the hot summer months.
