Entergy has awarded a $500 "Beat-the-Heat" grant to the City of Zachary to help protect vulnerable residents from the summer heat. With these funds, the City purchased 18 tower fans, which were raffled off during the “Prime Timers” senior luncheon held at Zachary First Baptist Church — a monthly community gathering open to all seniors.
Mayor David McDavid joined Entergy representatives Desiree Harris, Customer Service Manager, and Sara Kleinpeter, Senior Public Affairs Officer, to draw names and hand out the fans to the lucky recipients. In addition to the fan giveaway, Harris shared valuable information about Entergy’s utility bill assistance programs, including LIHEAP, deferred payment plans, and emergency resources available for low-income seniors and individuals with disabilities.
Mayor McDavid also took the opportunity to update attendees on the City’s progress in areas such as infrastructure improvements, transportation upgrades, public safety initiatives, economic development, and ongoing beautification projects.
This collaborative event highlights the City of Zachary and Entergy’s shared commitment to supporting and protecting residents—especially the senior population—during the hot summer months.

In a powerful display of emergency preparedness and community collaboration, the City of Zachary Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness — led by Emergency Preparedness Director Ty Stephens — in partnership with the Zachary Fire Department and Zachary Police Department and Lane Regional Medical Center conducted a full-scale mock disaster drill on Thursday.
This coordinated drill played a critical role in evaluating and strengthening the city and hospital’s emergency response protocols. The seamless communication between hospital staff and first responders contributed to a quick and effective overall response.
“We are grateful to Lane Memorial Hospital for the opportunity to participate in this essential training,” said Mayor David McDavid. “Exercises like this help us identify areas for improvement and ensure we are prepared to protect and serve the residents of Zachary in any emergency.”
During the exercise, the Zachary Fire Department successfully implemented decontamination procedures, while the Police Department managed traffic flow and crowd control to maintain public safety. Lane’s Emergency Department activated its disaster response protocol, receiving and “treating” volunteer patients with mock injuries, including children portraying trauma victims.
“This drill reflects our deep commitment to preparedness and partnership,” said Staci Sullivan, Chief Nursing Officer at Lane Regional Medical Center. Extending her gratitude to the City of Zachary Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, the Zachary Fire Department and Zachary Police Department, she added, “This level of collaboration is essential. Clear communication and trust between all partners—medical, municipal, and industrial—are what ultimately protect lives in an emergency.”

Each year at the end of the school year, the City of Zachary’s "Fish Fry Team" — including Mayor David McDavid, our Police and Fire Departments, and city employees — comes together to show appreciation for our amazing teachers in the Zachary Community School District.
Thanks to the generous donation from Thornton, Musso and Bellemin, Inc., who provided 450 pounds of catfish this year, the team served up 713 plates of delicious fried fish as a heartfelt thank you to our educators.
"We’re proud to honor the dedication and hard work of our teachers. Thank you for everything you do for our students and our community," says Mayor David McDavid.
Meet the Fish Fry Team!

Bob Whitaker, Safety Officer for the City of Zachary, partnered with Darian Williams of Diversified Management Holdings to host a defensive driving course today for City of Zachary employees. The class took place at the newly opened Zachary Police Department Training Center and was attended by 45 employees from various departments.
Defensive driving training plays a critical role in promoting safety among government employees who operate vehicles as part of their daily duties. The course covered essential skills such as accident avoidance, rapid response techniques, and managing unpredictable road conditions—all aimed at improving driver awareness and reducing risks on the road. “Providing our staff with the tools and knowledge to drive safely is not only a matter of personal safety but a reflection of our city’s commitment to excellence in public service,” said Whitaker. “This training ensures our employees are prepared, responsible, and focused on protecting both themselves and the community.”
In addition to enhancing road safety, defensive driving courses offer significant cost-saving benefits for government agencies by reducing the number of accidents, minimizing vehicle repair expenses, lowering insurance premiums, and decreasing lost time due to injuries. These practical benefits reinforce the City of Zachary’s commitment to safety, professionalism, and fiscal responsibility.
The City of Zachary extends its gratitude to Darian Williams and Diversified Management Holdings for their partnership in delivering this important training.

The City of Zachary extends its sincere thanks to Thornton, Musso & Bellemin (TMB) for their ongoing partnership and commitment to delivering clean, safe, and reliable water to our community. Headquartered in Zachary, TMB works closely with the City’s Utilities Maintenance Department to maintain the highest standards in water quality and infrastructure.
On April 30, TMB hosted its annual crawfish boil to show appreciation for City employees. Mayor David McDavid personally thanked the TMB team for their steadfast support and service to the community.
In 2023, the City of Zachary’s water system achieved a perfect score—80 out of 80 points—by the Louisiana Department of Health, a testament to the exceptional performance in water quality, system maintenance, and infrastructure. This outstanding rating reflects the strong collaboration between TMB and the City’s dedicated public works teams.
We celebrate this success as a shared achievement and remain #ZacharyProud of the partnerships that keep our city running strong.
