The Department of Public Works is responsible for all maintenance services within the city limits of Zachary for ditches, canals, creeks, drains, culverts, catch basins, sinkholes (drainage related), potholes, bridges, sidewalks (repaired only if damaged by the City of Zachary work/workers), streets, shoulders, curbs, trees in rights-of-way, blind corners, neutral grounds, removal of trash on medians, roadways, ditches, including slope mowing, grass cutting on city properties, and the installation/replacement of traffic/street signs on the City of Zachary rights-of-ways.
They are also responsible for sandbagging operations during storms and flooding, setting out barricades for weather-related events as requested, and public events sponsored by the city as needed.
The Department of Public Works oversees the contract with Waste Management for solid waste collection for garbage. Curbside, automated garbage/solid waste pickup is provided twice a week per week to each residential home. The Public Works Department directs the operations of bulk waste collection for all residents and small commercial businesses, which is offered bi-monthly through a contract with Waste Depot. The City of Zachary has a contract with the Department of Corrections for weekly trash pickup and grass-cutting along roadways. This contract has proven to be a cost-effective way to assist the City of Zachary Public Works Department crews.

The State of Louisiana (DOTD) provides maintenance services along state roads in the City of Zachary limits. DOTD handles all matters along state highways. To report a problem with a road, call 1-877-452-3683 or at firstname.lastname@example.org. The center is open from 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
