Flood Watch in Effect Through Saturday – City of Zachary Urges Residents to Prepare
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for our area through Saturday, with heavy rainfall expected to begin tomorrow. In preparation, the City of Zachary is providing free, self-serve sandbag stations for residents starting today, July 16.
Sandbag Pickup Location (City of Zachary Residents Only):
Zachary Youth Park
1650 Mt. Pleasant Road
4:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Important Guidelines:
- Limit of 10 sandbags per household
- Residents must bring their own shovels
- Assistance will be available for elderly and disabled residents
Residents who live outside Zachary city limits may pick up sandbags at:
Doyles Bayou Park BREC
7801 Port Hudson-Pride Road
City of Zachary Public Works crews are actively preparing for the anticipated severe weather by:
- Inspecting canal drainage systems
- Cleaning storm drains along major roadways
- Clearing ditches
- Staging barricades in case road closures become necessary
Mayor David McDavid encourages all residents to monitor weather updates, exercise caution while traveling, and take steps now to protect their homes and families.
“We are prepared, and we urge everyone in our community to stay alert and be ready,” said Mayor McDavid. “Together, we will get through this safely.”
