As we celebrate the Fourth of July, we also honor a remarkable milestone in our nation's history—the 250th anniversary of the United States of America. For two and a half centuries, America has stood as a beacon of freedom, opportunity, courage, and resilience because of the sacrifices of those who came before us.
Here in Zachary, we are equally proud of our own rich heritage. Since our incorporation on August 2, 1889, generations of dedicated citizens have built a community rooted in faith, family, hard work, and service. In just a few weeks, we will proudly celebrate 137 years as the City of Zachary.
Standing beside our historic 1943 Ford American LaFrance Fire Truck, I am reminded that preserving our history helps inspire our future. This fire truck represents the men and women who have faithfully served and protected our community for generations, and it reflects the same spirit of dedication that continues to make Zachary such a special place to call home.
On behalf of my family and the entire City of Zachary, I wish you and your loved ones a safe, joyful, and meaningful Independence Day. May God continue to bless the United States of America and the City of Zachary.

The City of Zachary will observe Independence Day on Thursday, July 2nd. In celebration of this national holiday, all City offices will be closed for the day. Please note that Zachary City Court will remain open on July 2nd but will be closed on Friday, July 3rd.
Garbage and recycling services will continue to operate on their regular schedule, so residents can expect no interruptions in collection.
We wish everyone a safe and happy Independence Day as we celebrate with family, friends, and community.

As the system in the Gulf continues to intensify and move toward landfall, our area is expected to experience periods of heavy rain and possible high winds over the next several days.
As storm conditions impact our area, please take the following precautions:
• Clear debris from storm drains near your home to help reduce flooding
• Slow down on wet roads and avoid any flooded areas
• Watch for debris and low-hanging tree limbs
• Report any hazards you come across
• Stay alert for law enforcement and first responders as they work to clear roadways and assist motorists

🪣 Sandbag Information:
• Sandbags are currently available at Doyles Bayou Park (7801 Port Hudson-Pride Road) for all East Baton Rouge Parish residents. Please use the Plank Road → W.J. Wicker → Port Hudson-Pride Road detour to access the site.
• Beginning tomorrow at 10:00 a.m., sandbags will also be available at Zachary Youth Park (1650 Mt. Pleasant Road) for residents within the City of Zachary.
– Limit: 6 bags per household
– Please bring your own shovel
– Assistance will be available for elderly residents or those unable to shovel

The City of Zachary will observe the Juneteenth holiday on Thursday, June 18. All city offices will be closed on this day, with the exception of Zachary City Court, which will be closed on Friday, June 19.

The City of Zachary is now accepting proposals for the lease and operation of a retail business at the Historic Zachary Train Depot, located at the corner of Main Street and Central Street. The proposed lease term is for up to two years.
Interested parties must submit written proposals to Zachary City Hall, located at 4700 Main Street, no later than 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.
Prospective applicants are encouraged to tour the Train Depot before submitting a proposal. Tours may be scheduled Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., beginning June 1, 2026, through June 30, 2026. To schedule a viewing, please contact Ashleigh McHugh at (225) 654-0287, ext. 6.

Interested parties must submit written proposals to Zachary City Hall, 4700 Main Street, Zachary, Louisiana, no later than 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

The City of Zachary will hold a Public Hearing on the proposed 2026–2027 Budget on Wednesday, May 13 at 12:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall (4700 Main Street).
Residents are encouraged to attend and hear a discussion of the Mayor’s proposed budget. Please note that no vote will be taken at this meeting.

City of Zachary Earns “A” Rating from Department of Health for Water System 💧
Addis landed as the second safest city in Louisiana for 2026, along with two other places in the Baton Rouge area, in a new report.
Safewise used FBI crime data to compile a list of the 10 safest places in Louisiana. While Addis in West Baton Rouge Parish nearly ranked first on the list, two other cities near Baton Rouge made the ranking. Baker ranked No. 7 and Zachary ranked No. 9.
A State of the Safety survey reported that Louisiana residents experienced less property crime, with the reported experience with property crime dropping from 31% to 25%. According to Safewise, residents prefer to protect their properties using security cameras, firearms and security systems.
The report shows that Louisiana residents are most concerned about violent crime, gun violence and cyber crime.

Build East Baton Rouge (Build EBR) has been awarded a $10,000Community Public Art Grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts to support the creation of a community-driven mural at the City Hall Annex in the City of Zachary.
The project will transform a prominent public space at 4650 Main Street into a vibrant work of art that reflects the identity, culture, and pride of the Zachary community. In addition to enhancing the visual landscape, the mural is intended to support ongoing downtown revitalization efforts and foster meaningful community engagement through the arts.
Build EBR and City of Zachary will officially release a public Call for Artists on April 30, 2026, inviting qualified artists and artist teams to submit proposals for the design and installation of the mural. The opportunity is open to emerging and established artists, with preference given to those based in Louisiana and the surrounding region. Submissions will be accepted through May 30, 2026. The selected artist will be chosen through a competitive, community-informed process and will work closely with local stakeholders to develop a mural concept that reflects the voices and stories of Zachary residents.
In addition to the artist selection process, community members will have opportunities to share input and ideas that help shape the mural’s design, ensuring the final piece is both reflective of and meaningful to the people who live and work in Zachary.

This mural in Zachary represents an opportunity to center the voices of residents, celebrate local culture, and create a shared sense of place that people can see themselves in. At Build EBR, we are intentional about investing in projects that bring people together and contribute to vibrant, thriving communities, and this initiative does exactly that.” said Deidre Deculus Robert, President and CEO of Build Baton Rouge.
Zachary Mayor David McDavid added, “The City of Zachary is proud to invest in projects that bring our community together while celebrating what makes our city special,” said David McDavid, Mayor of the City of Zachary. “This mural will not only beautify our downtown but also serve as a lasting reflection of our shared history, creativity, and community spirit.”
This project will include opportunities for community engagement throughout the design and installation phases. The completed mural is anticipated by the end of 2026. This project is supported in part by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation & Tourism.
