Renewals of Occupational Licenses in the City of Zachary Now Due

Posted by zachary on February 28, 2023

The City of Zachary collects occupational license taxes from businesses in the City of Zachary. Renewal of occupational licenses is due each year on January 1 and becomes delinquent on March 1. The renewal of your occupational license is based on your business activity for the previous year.

The failure to pay that tax as levied shall cause the tax, interest, penalties, and costs to become immediately delinquent and vests the City with authority to file suit against the delinquent taxpayer seeking an order to pay the total amount due and owing.

All new businesses, including home occupations, must obtain their occupational licenses before opening their business. Some examples of home businesses include online sales, jewelry making, online teaching/tutoring, freelance writing, and cleaning businesses, etc.

To obtain an occupational license, you may download an Occupational License online at the City of Zachary Website, here.  You can fill out the application, and return it in-person to the City of Zachary Inspection Department, 4650 Main Street, City Hall Annex. The City of Zachary will verify if you qualify for a license.

Checks for a new occupational license should be made payable to the City of Zachary for one of the options listed below:

$50 for businesses that open January 1 – June 30 or $25 for businesses that open July 1 – December 31.

Additional questions concerning obtaining a new occupational license or renewal can be addressed by calling the City of Zachary Inspection Department at 225 654-6873.
